CHIRK CASTLE ‘Battle of Crogen’. The National Trust at Chirk Castle will be commemorating the anniversary of King Henry II’s Berwyn Campaign against the combined Welsh Forces of King Owain Gwynedd, Owain Cyfeiliog, The Lord Rhys and a host of other Welsh princes. The opening skirmish, traditionally referred to as The Battle of Crogen took place on the Chirk estate in the Ceiriog Valley in the late summer of 1165 a.d.

11 : 00 AM Event opens. Living History Encampments 11: 30 AM ARENA 1 Single Combat, Warbands and Archery display 12 : 45 PM ARENA 2 1165 A.D. ‘Kings, Princes, warriors and camp followers’ Come meet the people who fought at The Battle of Crogen. 01 : 45 PM ARENA 1 ‘Raising a new army’ – Children’s activity. 02 : 30 PM ARENA 1 MAIN DISPLAY – ‘THE BERWYN CAMPAIGN SKIRMISH’. 04 : 00 PM Event Close.
